Finding my feet…in the water

Yup, it’s true. I’m 23 years old and I can’t swim.

To my credit though, I’ve decided to learn! As I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, I thought I’d start making use of the gorgeous pool they have. One of the personal trainers, Heidi, offers swimming lessons and I’ve had two so far. :)

The first was a bit of a nightmare, frustrated by not being able to do something that looks so simple.
The second however was what I call progress, Heidi has been teaching me the breaststroke and I think I’ve nearly cracked it! As a result I had loads of fun and it was so much more enjoyable now that I’m actually moving.

My next lesson is on Friday, watch out Olympics, here I come!

    Greetings from Hvar!

Great news Parm, so next time we meet here, I can take you on the water rings behind my speedboat and not be worried that you will drown! Hehe.

Anyways, great work with the site. Just wanted to say hi.

    Speak to you soon, bud!

Hey Darko! Great to hear from you mate. :)

I’m looking forward to the next trip to Hvar already. I’ve been pushing myself on the treadmil at the gym too so I’m determined to make that run all the way next time!

Looking forward to jumping into that Lagoon next time too, I doubt I’ll be able to race you though! :)

I have had my 2nd lesson and still can’t get a float,

Has anyone else had this problem?
    I feel so embarrassed.

The teacher said it will just click with me.

The lady that is with me is able to do it, it is 2 people a class.

Missey, when I was learning my mom learnt with me too and she had the same problem. It took her a little longer, but she can swim now.

My only advice would be to relax and continue to be patient. Don’t be nervous or embarrassed, different people click at different times but I’ve no doubt at all that you’ll click soon enough.

I find swimming on my back is the best way to float, but I learnt to swim the breast stroke first.

As you’ve only had your 2nd lesson, bare with it. It took me more lessons than that to get going. I think I was on my 5th or 6th before I got the hang of things!
